Kuk is the highest peak of Kolovrat mountain range. Its speciality is that it offers not only the takeoff for southeren winds like other takeoffs, but can be also used when winds are blowing from the north. It is located very close to Slovenian-Italian border and is the highest peak of Kolovrat mountain range.
From the rugged peaks of the Krn mountain amphitheater to the azure expanse of the Adriatic Sea glistening in the distance, the views from Kuk takeoff are nothing short of mesmerizing. It’s a sensation that defies description – a feeling of awe and wonder that words alone cannot capture. In the air we’ll be treated to a mesmerizing aerial perspective of the Soča River as it winds its way from Kobarid to Tolmin below us. On days with good visibility we are aslo able to see Friuli, Veneto, the Julian Alps, the Carnic Alps and the Dolomites.
Depending on weather conditions, our tandem paragliding adventure concludes with landings either in Ladra or Kobarid.
Kuk mountain and the surrounding Kolovrat region hold significant historical importance, particularly during the First World War. This area witnessed intense battles between Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces, with Kuk serving as a strategic vantage point. Today, visitors can delve into this poignant history at the Museum on Kolovrat, which offers insight into the harsh realities of war and the sacrifices made by soldiers on both sides. Through exhibits, artifacts, and interactive displays, the museum honors the memory of those who fought here, providing a solemn reminder of the impact of conflict on this rugged mountain landscape.
For hikers, Kuk presents an inviting challenge with its network of trails that wind through pristine alpine landscapes. These trails cater to a range of skill levels, from leisurely strolls to more demanding ascents, offering hikers the chance to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Kolovrat mountain range. Mountain bikers also flock to Kuk to explore its rugged terrain and adrenaline-pumping trails. The mountain’s varied topography provides an exhilarating playground for bikers of all abilities, with routes that meander through dense forests, traverse rocky slopes, and descend thrillingly down winding paths.
